AMERICAN EXPRESS AND THE NATIONAL TRUST FOR HISTORIC PRESERVATION ANNOUNCE PROGRAM TO GIVE AWAY $1 MILLION IN GRANTS TO GREATER BOSTON HISTORIC PLACES

Public to Vote Onlie for Their Favorite Historic Places to Receive Funding from American Express

American Express and the National Trust for Historic Preservation announced today that the Greater Boston area has been chosen for the community-based Partners in Preservation program, which provides restoration grants for local historic sites. American Express is committing $1 million in preservation grants to the Greater Boston area and is encouraging local residents and people across the country to participate by voting for their favorite historic place from a diverse slate of 25 sites across the Greater Boston area. The Partners in Preservation program in Greater Boston launches on April 14th with the unveiling of the 25 historic sites that will be vying for the funding dollars; voting begins that day at www.PartnersinPreservation.com.

“The Partners in Preservation program will give residents the chance to get involved and take pride in their local history, while promoting travel and tourism throughout Massachusetts,” said The Honorable Deval L. Patrick, Governor of Massachusetts.

“With so many wonderful historic sites in Boston, choosing a favorite will be tough, but regardless of the winner, this is a great way to people thinking about the importance of historic preservation,” said the Honorable Thomas M. Menino, Mayor of the City of Boston. “Boston’s rich and diverse cultural heritage makes our City a natural fit for the Partners in Preservation program.”
