Roofing ceremony for the new headoffice building of AachenMünchener

Restaurant Vapiano will open on the groundfloor of the second construction section

Today AachenMünchener has held the roofing ceremony of its new office building will all those involved in the construction work. Michael Westkamp, the Chief Executive of AachenMünchener, expressed his thanks to all craftsmen, workers and companies which contributed to establishing the shell construction. “I thank you very much for your work. You were on the building site every day, in strong heat in summer, in rain and storm and in this real cold winter.”

In the past 14 months about 40,000 cubic meters of excavations and 5,500 cubic meters of demolished concrete have been removed, approximately 1,950 tons of reinforcement steel have been handled, 12,750 cubic meters of concrete have been cast and 272 drilled piles with a length between 5 and 11 meters have been cast in concrete. Only in March a bridge was constructed crossing Borngasse. The steel girders of that bridge weigh 23.5 tons. In the next few weeks the façade works and indoor installation will start.

AachenMünchener is constructing its new headoffice in Aachen. As a whole, four buildings and two underground car parks will be established in two construction sections. The investment amount is approximately € 100 m. The second construction section accounts for about 10 percent of that investment. The core of the new complex is a building of up to seven storeys where the new main entrance of AachenMünchener will also be located. The new address of the company will then be AachenMünchener Platz 1. There will be approximately 1,000 people working in the complex. The buildings will be ready for occupation in the first quarter of 2010.

The so-called second construction section is created in Franzstraße and will be in parallel with Borngasse. It will consist of an independent building for autonomous use. The number of office rooms in the building will depend on the requirements of users.

Besides, the Vapiano restaurant will open in the second construction section. On the groundfloor of the building in Franzstraße Jörg Ritter, the operator of the restaurant has rented a space of 800 square meters providing room for 190 guests. In addition, there will be an outdoor terrace with room for 100 guests overlooking a little park soon to be created at the corner Borngasse/Franzstraße. The restaurant is expected to open in October 2009.

“The new buildings, the new passage from the station to the city centre and the restaurant will be additional positive and lively features in downtown Aachen. We are glad to have Vapiano as a long-term tenant”, Westkamp says. “We are very optimistic that the second construction section of high-quality office space will be fully let.” As a whole, more than half of the available floor space has already been let to tenants.

Vapiano is regarded as a trendsetter in the restaurant business and stands for a fresh, home-made Italian cuisine directly prepared in front of guests. According to Mirko Silz, member of the Board of Management of Vapiano SE “fresh – fast – beautiful” as a recipe for success will also provide the Aachen restaurant scene with new momentum. Following the design plans of the Italian star architect Matteo Thun (Alessi, Porsche, Esprit, Radisson), the restaurant will be characterized by noble material and an extensive glass front. A special flair will be created by 100-year old olive trees and the herb garden with many fresh herbs for the individual seasoning of food.

Jörg Ritter, the operator of the Vapiano restaurant will provide jobs for about 80 persons, half of which on a full-time basis. The Vapiano will be open seven days a week from 10.00 a.m. until midnight, on weekends even until 1.00 a.m. The kitchen closes one hour earlier.
